Concern Universal Malawi is an international NGO creating opportunities for lasting improvement in peoples’ lives. We work in partnership with communities, civil society, government and private sector reaching over 300,000 rural people each year. I lead on sustainable livelihoods which includes stimulating local economic development and pro-poor growth. This encompasses development of smallholder marketing associations and linking these to commercial buyers (successful examples to date include potatoes, groundnuts, paprika and support to smallholder sugarcane outgrowers in Kasinthula and Dwangwa); working with CUMO Microfinance Limited, of which I am a director, to extend support to productive business enterprises; carbon financing to benefit rural communities.
