Parveen Sultana Huda commented on Georgina Turner's blog post Impact Investment Fund LaunchedIn June last year I went to Lusaka, the Zambian capital, for the first time. One of the pieces of work I was to complete was a value chain analysis of the charcoal industry along one of the supply routes into Lusaka.
Having seen the destructive power of the charcoal trade first hand in Malawi I was interested to see how the situation compared in neighbouring Zambia. In Malawi, the charcoal trade is illegal and yet over 13% of total forest cover has been lost in the past decade leaving…

Lucia Labouchere said… Thank you Georgie. I will get something to you on VSLA and developing agricultural skills - also interesting is the difference between northern and southern regions of Malawi - much more wealth up here it seems.
GITAU MBURE said… Thanks, Georgina. I will try to put some info on WALA agribusiness in the coming weeks. The platform has quite a bit of interesting info which I think will benefit our work and we also look forward to sharing our lessons.

Navin Kumar said… Hi Georgie,
I just read the article and its very intresting. This is something that we want to do as we scale up our outgrower progammes on Cassava and Potato. Using moblie technology for technical backstopping to alert farmers on spray schedules, pest and diseases etc is already in place in parts of India and we want to bring this into our areas of operations in the near future. There is also the question of how to charge mobile phones in rural areas ? Solar powered phone charges ? I am sure someone has thought of this too
Cheers and talk to you soon
