Contract Farming Model for ACI Agribusinesses

Dear All,

ACI Agribusinesses is the largest integrator in country's agriculture aiming to provide complete solutions to the farmers. We have six strategic business units providing Seed, Fertilizer, Crop Care & Public Health (CCPH), Motors (farm mechanization), (Cropex) crop exchange and Livestock and Fisheries. ACI also have country's largest retail chain 'Shwapno' with 40 outlets in Dhaka, Chittagong & Sylhet.

While Seed, Fertilizer, CCPH and Motors are providing valuable input to the farmers, Cropex is there to trade with the farmers to ensure the right price for them.  

Now we are looking for a sustainable inclusive business model for Contract Farming which might include inputs from Seed, Fertilizer, CCPH and Motors and supplied to Shwapno and other retail chain through Cropex. We need to understand the triggers and barriers including the risk factors and their mitigation plan. 

We would highly appreciate support from Development Partners to study, develop, pilot and run such model with active partnership. 

We believe such model can make a revolutionary impact to the livelihood of the farmers. Appreciate your comments, feedbacks and ideas on this issue.

Thank you for sharing this useful information. We are also interested to study on how contract farming can be used as a tool to ensure fair price for the farmers and smooth supply & quality products for the big companies. This can help as well to reduce malpractices (using chemicals & other stuffs) in the farming sector.

At Katalyst the Rural C team we try to faciliate contract farming for Maize and potatao sectors .We started working with indivudual contractors in the north and then as a scale up went went to create Super Contractors who is basically a feed mill under whom are the subcontractors ( former contractors). We have also developed dedicated credit line for the contractors and contract farmers through Agrani Bank Limited.If ACI is interested we can definitely meet up and discuss with you.
